In a contentious development along the India-Bangladesh border, personnel from the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) allegedly crossed into Indian territory in Assam to stop the renovation of the Manasa Temple, citing concerns that it might “offend Bangladeshi Muslims.”
According to reports, BGB personnel threatened to open fire if restoration work on the temple resumed. This led to a confrontation with local residents and India’s Border Security Force (BSF), who chased the BGB troops back across the border.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government has sanctioned ₹3 lakh for the temple’s restoration, affirming that the work will continue despite opposition.
The incident has sparked strong reactions, with critics condemning the BGB’s alleged incursion as an affront to India’s sovereignty. Indian officials have emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated and that the temple renovation will proceed as planned.
Tensions remain high in the region as authorities assess the situation and take measures to prevent further confrontations.
