Army JCO Killed, Three Commandos Injured in Encounter with Terrorists in J&K’s Kishtwar

Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF) Dies in Gunfight; Operation Ongoing

In a fierce encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of the Indian Army’s 2 Para (Special Forces) lost his life, while three other commandos sustained injuries. The operation unfolded on Sunday, November 10, in the Bhart Ridge area, as joint forces from the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police engaged suspected militants.

White Knight Corps Honors Fallen Soldier

The Army’s White Knight Corps paid tribute to the sacrifice of Naib Subedar Kumar, stating, “We salute the supreme sacrifice of braveheart Nb Sub Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF). We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.” Naib Subedar Kumar was part of a counter-insurgency mission in the dense forests of Kishtwar.

Search for Terrorists in Connection to Village Defence Group Murders

The encounter began as joint search teams moved through Kuntwara and Keshwan forests, seeking two terrorists believed responsible for the recent murders of Village Defence Group (VDG) members Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar. The militants had allegedly kidnapped and killed the VDG members, whose bodies were discovered a short distance away from the current operation site.

Commandos Airlifted for Treatment, Search Operation Intensifies

Four para commandos were initially injured in the firefight and were swiftly airlifted to a hospital in Udhampur. Naib Subedar Kumar later succumbed to his injuries. The search for the terrorists continues as forces work to pinpoint their location and neutralize the threat.

Separate Encounter Yields Success in Baramulla

In a separate anti-terror operation on November 8, two terrorists were killed in Baramulla during a combing operation based on intelligence inputs. The security forces have been intensifying their operations across Jammu and Kashmir to counter rising insurgent activity.
