Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has spoken out about the company’s recent acquisition of the James Bond franchise, assuring fans that there are no immediate plans for the iconic spy series. Following Amazon’s creative takeover of the Bond property after its deal with MGM Studios, Jassy clarified that while the future of the franchise is in the company’s hands, no new direction or story has been decided yet.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Jassy emphasized that the team is taking their time to figure out the next steps. “We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be,” he said. “Nobody’s written the story yet. But we will take great care. It’s an amazing franchise that we care a lot about and that we expect to develop over a long period of time.”
The decision to move control of the Bond franchise to Amazon comes after Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the long-time producers behind the series, struck a deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Although the duo remains co-owners of the franchise, Amazon now holds the reins when it comes to creative direction.
Jassy assured fans that despite the uncertainty, the company recognizes the significance of the Bond legacy. “We’re incredibly honoured to have the ability to help shepherd the Bond franchise for the next generation,” he said. “We have amazing filmmakers that we’ve hired over time at MGM Amazon Studios.”
Jassy’s comments follow some concerns from fans about the future of the series, especially after Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007 in No Time To Die in 2021. Craig himself expressed his respect and admiration for Broccoli and Wilson, stating, “My respect, admiration and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished.”
With Jassy emphasizing the careful handling of the franchise, the future of James Bond seems to be in good hands, but the next chapter remains to be written.
