The manslaughter case against Alec Baldwin, stemming from the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust” in 2021, has been officially concluded. Prosecutors in New Mexico withdrew their appeal on December 23, 2024, signaling the end of legal proceedings. The decision follows a July 2024 dismissal of charges due to alleged evidence concealment.
While Baldwin’s lawyers maintain his innocence, insisting the shooting was a tragic accident, the prosecution expressed hope that ongoing lawsuits could provide justice for Hutchins’ family. Baldwin, who has consistently denied criminal wrongdoing, has faced widespread scrutiny regarding on-set safety protocols.
The movie, “Rust,” was completed and released in November 2024, with director Joel Souza injured in the incident. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, received an 18-month prison sentence related to the case.
This conclusion marks a significant shift in the long-standing legal battle over the on-set tragedy.
