Carlos Alcaraz secured his first Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the final. This victory marks the sixth Masters 1000 title for the 21-year-old Spaniard and his biggest win since claiming Wimbledon last year.
“It’s been a tough week and an even tougher month, both on and off the court,” said Alcaraz. “I’m proud of how I handled everything and thrilled to see my hard work pay off.”
Alcaraz, who will now rise to No. 2 in the ATP rankings, had to rally after dropping the first set. Musetti, playing in his first Masters final, had earlier defeated top players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur.
However, the Italian struggled physically in the third set, needing treatment for a right leg issue. Despite the setback, he continued to fight but couldn’t keep up with Alcaraz’s intensity.
“This has been one of my best tournaments,” Musetti said. “Though I couldn’t finish the way I wanted, I’ll keep pushing and aim to come back stronger.”
Musetti’s run in Monte Carlo will lift him to a career-high ranking of No. 11, with the clay season—and Roland Garros—still ahead.
