An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai was delayed early Tuesday after encountering a technical issue with one of its engines during a scheduled layover at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.Flight AI180 landed in Kolkata as per schedule at 12:45 am. However, a malfunction in the aircraft’s left engine disrupted its onward journey to Mumbai. Around 5:20 am, airline staff instructed all passengers to disembark as a safety precaution.Television visuals showed the aircraft parked on the tarmac while engineers examined the faulty engine. This incident comes a day after another Air India flight, AI315—a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Hong Kong to Delhi—was forced to return mid-flight due to a suspected technical issue. The model is the same as that involved in the recent Air India Flight 171 crash near Ahmedabad, which claimed more than 279 lives, according to AFP.In a related case, a British Airways flight (BA35) bound for Chennai had to return to London Heathrow after suffering a technical fault. The aircraft, also a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was in the air for nearly two hours before making its way back.
