Europe is envious and furious over the recent phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump. This call has made it clear that Europe’s global influence has weakened, said Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and currently the deputy chairman of the country’s Security Council, on Thursday.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke over the phone. The call has raised concerns among some European Union (EU) politicians. European leaders fear that despite being unfavorable for Kyiv, Putin and Trump might reach an agreement on the Ukraine war.
On Thursday, Germany’s defense minister said that even before negotiations began, the U.S. administration had already indicated concessions to Russia, which he called unfortunate.
In a Telegram post, Putin’s close ally Medvedev stated that Europe has gone mad with envy and anger. He added that Europe was neither informed about the Putin-Trump phone call nor given any insight into their discussion, which has made them furious.
The former Russian president said, “This shows the real role of Russia and the U.S. in the world. Europe’s time is over.”
Meanwhile, a report from the influential U.S. media outlet The Wall Street Journal stated that China has proposed a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump to help end the Ukraine war. The report cites officials involved in Beijing’s plan.
Officials from both Beijing and Washington confirmed that in recent weeks, Chinese representatives have been in contact with Trump’s team through intermediaries. They are drafting a proposal to facilitate a summit between the two leaders and outline a post-war peacekeeping effort.
