A.R. Rahman Ends 29-Year Married Life

Oscar-winning music composer and artist A.R. (Allah Rakha) Rahman is ending his 30-year marriage. Despite having a deep and enduring relationship with his wife, Saira Banu, tensions and complexities have emerged in their marriage that cannot be resolved, they have both stated. Recently, Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, announced the divorce in a public statement.

A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu got married in 1995 and have three children: Khadija, Rahima, and Amin.

The statement from their lawyer mentioned that the divorce was being made public with the mutual consent and guidance of both A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu.

The statement also noted that, after many years of marriage, Saira and her husband have made the difficult decision to separate. Despite a long and deep marital bond, tensions and unresolved issues had caused emotional strain, and both have decided that it is impossible to fix their relationship.

Both A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu emphasized that the decision was made due to “intense pain” and “hurt” they experienced in the relationship.

The couple further requested their fans to refrain from making negative comments about their relationship and expressed that they are going through an especially difficult time.

A.R. Rahman’s only son, Amin, also took to Instagram, requesting everyone to respect their “family privacy.”
