Impeached South Korean President Yoon arrested

Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been arrested. This information was given in the BBC news on Wednesday

Efforts by investigators to arrest Yoon were initially thwarted by members of the Presidential Security Service (PSS). Investigators were later able to arrest him.

Earlier this month, investigators raided Yoon’s home for several hours to arrest him. However, the operation was thwarted by his security forces. He was arrested on the second attempt.

To everyone’s surprise, Yoon declared martial law in South Korea on December 3. But in the face of strong protests and resistance, he was forced to withdraw it after just six hours.

Yoon was impeached by the country’s parliament on December 14 for declaring a short-lived martial law. He was suspended from his duties as president.

A criminal investigation was launched on charges of sedition and abuse of power. Yoon refused to appear before the investigating officers for questioning. On December 31, a South Korean court issued an arrest warrant against Yoon.

The arrest warrant against Yoon expired on Jan. 6. Later, the court extended the arrest warrant, investigators said.
