Amy Adams’ much-anticipated film Nightbitch is set to debut on Disney+ on January 24, 2025, following a successful premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and a limited American theatrical release. The movie will be available for UK and Irish audiences on the streaming platform later this month.
Nightbitch follows the story of a woman who, having put her artistic career on hold to become a stay-at-home mother, begins to grapple with feelings of resentment and alienation. The film explores themes of motherhood, identity loss, and the surreal transformations that occur as the protagonist confronts her inner turmoil. Without giving away too much, it’s safe to say the narrative takes a very unexpected turn.
In addition to Amy Adams, the film features a strong supporting cast including Scoot McNairy (Speak No Evil), Zoë Chao (Strangers), Mary Holland (Maggie Moore(s)), Ella Thomas (9-1-1), and Jessica Harper (Suspiria).
In a conversation with Digital Spy in November, Adams shared her thoughts on the film’s exploration of motherhood. “A lot of the complications and a lot of our innermost thoughts that we don’t always voice, so it’s nice to hear that people are identifying with it,” she said. “The bigger picture of parenthood, as well as the feelings that the loss of identities bring up in you… I know that.”
Nightbitch taps into deep, often unspoken emotions about parenting and relationships, resonating with many viewers as they connect to the protagonist’s struggles. Adams also spoke about the unique experience of working with multiple dogs on set, adding another layer of complexity to the film’s atmosphere.
Following Nightbitch, Adams will next star in the real-life comedy Lazy Susans, which she is also producing.
