Is Lionel Messi going to return to Europe? If the news of the media SB Nation is true, then something like this is going to happen later this year. Messi’s return to Europe is not easy, though.
According to the US-based media, Inter Miami will offer Messi a new contract due to expire this year. Under the terms of the deal, Messi will be allowed to play in Europe after the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season in 2025.
The annual MLS season begins in February. And it ends in December. Now, according to a possible new contract, Messi can join a European club on loan in December. Basically, Miami is offering a contract to give Messi a chance to prepare for the 2026 World Cup. The 37-year-old Argentine superstar, however, has not yet signed a new contract.
The clause that Inter Miami is going to put in the contract proposal for Messi is approved by Major League Soccer. After playing two years in the league, a club can send him on a temporary loan.
Miami will play their third game of their pre-season tour on February 2 at Panama City. Miami’s opponent in that match is Sporting San Miguelito. Then on February 8, Miami will face Deportivo Olimpia in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Miami’s last match will be against Orlando City on February 14 in Florida.
