The World Bank Group has announced its new Gender Strategy for 2024-2030, setting out bold ambitions to accelerate gender equality. This comprehensive strategy aims to ensure that millions more women gain better access to broadband internet, essential services, banking, education, job opportunities, social protection, and capital by 2030.
Gender equality is not just a matter of fairness and justice; it is also crucial for development. It is key to unlocking economic productivity, reducing poverty, deepening social cohesion, and enhancing the well-being and prosperity of current and future generations. Despite significant progress, women continue to face barriers to achieving their full potential.
In countries at all income levels, fewer women participate in the labor force compared to men. Crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturns, and climate shocks have had disproportionate negative effects on women, girls, sexual and gender minorities, and other marginalized groups.
As part of its commitment, the World Bank Group‘s Gender Strategy will focus on addressing these challenges and creating opportunities for women to thrive. This includes improving access to education, healthcare, and financial services, as well as promoting gender-responsive policies and programs.
By working to accelerate gender equality, the World Bank Group aims to foster a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.
