Supreme Court may announce sentence against Trump today

US President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be sentenced on Friday for bribing a star. The U.S. Supreme Court issued an order in this regard on Thursday. Five judges voted in favor and four against it (5-4).

Prior to the ruling, the Supreme Court rejected an urgent request by Donald Trump to delay the sentencing process. In this situation, just a few days before he is sworn in as the President of the United States for the second time, the ground for his conviction is ready.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh said they would have complied with Trump’s request. But Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined three other liberal justices on the Supreme Court in taking a stand against him.

Earlier this month, Judge Juan Marchan of the Manhattan Court in New York said that the sentence against Trump would be announced today. However, he indicated that Trump would not face any kind of punishment or imprisonment.
Donald Trump is on trial in a Manhattan court for allegedly bribing star Stormy Daniels to cover up a sexual affair. In May last year, the court convicted him in the case.

In the lawsuit, Stormy Daniels alleges that she had a sexual relationship with Trump at a hotel in the state of Nevada in 2006. Trump paid him $130,000 100,000 in 2016 through his personal lawyer so that he would not tell anyone about the incident. At that time, Trump was campaigning as the Republican Party’s candidate in the US presidential election. He also concealed information about bribery in his business documents.
