Djokovic claims he was given ‘poisoned’ food in Australia

Novak Djokovic, the men’s tennis Grand Slam winner, has claimed he was given a “poisoned” food mixed with lead and mercury while detained in Melbourne in 2022.

Djokovic’s visa was revoked after he went to the country to play the Australian Open. He was held in a detention hotel. Then the former number one in the ranking got into a legal battle, but to no avail. He was deported from the country before the start of the Australian Open.

The famous GQ magazine of boys in the United States yesterday published an interview with the 24-time Grand Slam winner in men’s tennis. Djokovic said, “I was suffering from some health problems, which I understood in the Melbourne hotel. I was suffering from poisoning in the food that was given. ’

“I discovered a few things when I came back to Serbia,” Djokovic said. I never said it publicly, but what I discovered was that there were high levels of metal [in the body]. There were high levels of lead and mercury. ’
The 37-year-old Serbian was asked directly if he really believed that the food was poisoned. “It’s the only way,” Djokovic said. ’

A Home Office spokeswoman said she could not comment on personal matters “in the interest of privacy”. The Australian government has said that there was a lease agreement with the Park Hotel, where Djokovic was staying. Fresh cooked meals were provided there for the detainees.
