207 Films to Compete for the 97th Academy Award for Best Picture

A total of 323 feature films were eligible for consideration at the 97th Academy Awards, with 207 films making the cut for Best Picture nomination. The announcement was made on January 7 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

For a film to be eligible for the 2024 Oscars, it must meet certain criteria. Among the key requirements, the film must have been released in at least one of the major U.S. cities—Los Angeles, New York City, the Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, or Atlanta—and must have had a continuous commercial run for at least seven days. Additionally, the film must be over 40 minutes in length.

In order to qualify for Best Picture, films must not only meet these general requirements but also submit a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards (RAISE) form. Films must fulfill at least two of the four inclusion standards, and by 45 days after the film’s U.S. release, they must have completed extended theatrical runs in at least 10 out of the top 50 U.S. markets. If this condition is not met by January 24, 2025, the film could lose its eligibility for the competition.

The full list of eligible films can be found on the official Academy website. Voting for nominations will begin on January 8 and end on January 12, with the nomination list to be announced on January 17.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2, 2024. The event will be broadcast live on ABC and streamed on Hulu, as well as broadcast in more than 200 countries worldwide.
