Everton Facing Bigger Challenges Than Maupay’s Social Media Comments – Dyche

Everton manager Sean Dyche has downplayed the significance of striker Neal Maupay’s recent social media post, stating that the club has more pressing issues to address.

The Toffees suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Following the loss, Maupay, who is currently on loan at Marseille, posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Whenever I’m having a bad day, I just check the Everton score and smile.” The 28-year-old French forward last played for Everton in August 2023 during a match against Doncaster.

When asked about the post, Dyche dismissed it with a lighthearted response, saying, “There’s a bigger picture at Everton Football Club that I’m focusing on, and I don’t think I need to worry about this too much.”

Regarding potential disciplinary action, Dyche added, “I don’t think we’ll be concerned about that.”

The Everton manager’s primary focus remains on steering the club away from relegation. The team currently sits two points above the relegation zone, with only one win in their last 10 league matches. Up next, Everton faces seventh-placed Bournemouth on Saturday.

On other matters, Dyche addressed rumors surrounding England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been linked with a move to Italian club Atalanta. “There’s been no contact from anyone,” Dyche confirmed, dismissing speculation about the 27-year-old’s future.

Despite Everton’s recent takeover by The Friedkin Group, Dyche indicated that significant activity in the January transfer window is unlikely. “There are [financial] parameters, and the owners have made that clear,” he said. “While the owners are wealthy, it’s not about spending hundreds of millions of pounds.”

Dyche acknowledged the challenges of executing major deals in January, adding, “I’m not ruling anything out, but history shows it’s tough to get big deals done in this window unless a lot of money is involved.”

As Dyche works to stabilize Everton, the focus remains firmly on improving results and avoiding a relegation scrap.
