Jimmy Carter, 39th U.S. President, Dies at 100

Washington, D.C. — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a Nobel laureate and global humanitarian, passed away peacefully at the age of 100. Carter, the longest-living president in American history, left a legacy defined by his dedication to peace, democracy, and human rights.

The Carter Center, which he founded with his wife Rosalynn after leaving the White House in 1981, confirmed the news in a statement, celebrating his life of service. “He lived his life with humility, faith, and a tireless commitment to improving the world,” the statement read.

Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. His presidency was marked by significant achievements in foreign policy, including the historic Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. However, he also faced challenges, such as the Iran hostage crisis and economic difficulties.

Carter’s post-presidency work earned widespread acclaim. Through the Carter Center, he spearheaded efforts to combat diseases, promote democratic elections, and mediate conflicts worldwide. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his “decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

President Joe Biden and former presidents expressed their condolences, hailing Carter as a man of principle whose impact extended far beyond his presidency. “Jimmy Carter was a beacon of decency, a relentless champion for the voiceless, and a guiding force for peace,” President Biden said in a statement.

Carter is survived by his four children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his beloved wife of over 75 years, Rosalynn. Tributes are pouring in from around the globe, reflecting on a life that touched millions.

Details about memorial services are expected to be announced in the coming days. As the world mourns the loss of a statesman and humanitarian, Carter’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
