US Bangabandhu Parishad Demands Accountability from Dr. Yunus

Dr. Yunus Must Be Held Accountable for Distorting Liberation War History and Disrespecting Freedom Fighters.

The Liberation War of 1971 stands as the most glorious chapter in the history of Bangladesh, marking the birth of the nation through the supreme sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the true heroes of the nation. However, deep sorrow and outrage have surfaced as allegations emerge against Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his alleged associates of attempting to distort this proud history and dishonor freedom fighters.

Dr. Yunus, accused of aligning with anti-liberation forces, including the controversial Jamaat-e-Islami, faces serious charges of undermining the legacy of Bangladesh’s independence. Critics claim that these actions are part of a broader agenda aimed at erasing the proud history of the Liberation War and targeting the nation’s esteemed freedom fighters.

In a recent appalling incident in Chauddagram, Cumilla, war hero Abdul Hai Kanu was reportedly assaulted, with his life threatened by perpetrators who forced him to wear a garland of shoes and leave his village. The act, condemned nationwide, reflects the systematic efforts to humiliate those who risked their lives for the country’s freedom.

These allegations against Dr. Yunus and his purported collaborators have drawn sharp criticism from liberation war veterans, historians, and organizations at home and abroad. The U.S.-based Bangabandhu Parishad has issued a stern statement condemning these acts as a betrayal of the sacrifices made during the war.

“From torching the historic residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to erasing memorials of the Liberation War, these actions are clear attempts to undermine our national identity,” said a spokesperson for the Bangabandhu Parishad. “The disgraceful harassment of freedom fighters is a continuation of this malicious agenda.”

The accusations have sparked widespread protests among the Bangladeshi diaspora and freedom fighter organizations worldwide, demanding accountability from Dr. Yunus. They have urged the government to take strong measures against those involved in tarnishing the nation’s cherished history.

“Dr. Yunus must answer to the nation for his role in these disgraceful activities,” the Parishad’s statement concluded.

As the outrage grows, many Bangladeshis are calling for unity in safeguarding the legacy of the Liberation War and protecting the dignity of those who fought for freedom. The call to action resonates with a clear message: no individual or group can erase the sacrifices and memories of 1971.
