Kuwait Bestows Highest Honour ‘The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Kuwait’s highest civilian honour, “The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer,” in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and global diplomacy. The prestigious knighthood order was presented to Mr. Modi on Sunday, December 22, 2024, during his two-day official visit to Kuwait at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
This marks the 20th international accolade conferred upon Prime Minister Modi by a foreign nation, underscoring his growing stature as a global statesman.
A Prestigious Honour
“The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer” is Kuwait’s highest decoration, traditionally reserved for heads of state, foreign sovereigns, and royal family members. It symbolizes deep friendship and respect between nations. Named after Mubarak Al Kabeer, the founder of modern Kuwait, the honour reflects the country’s commitment to fostering diplomatic ties.
Past recipients of this prestigious award include notable world leaders such as former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, as well as Britain’s King Charles III. Prime Minister Modi’s inclusion in this esteemed list further highlights his influence on the global stage.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kuwait is seen as a significant step in bolstering India-Kuwait relations. Discussions with Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah focused on trade, energy cooperation, and investments. Kuwait, a key player in the Gulf region, is one of India’s largest oil suppliers and an essential partner in regional security and economic cooperation.
During his visit, Mr. Modi emphasized India’s commitment to fostering strong ties with Gulf nations. “The partnership between India and Kuwait is built on mutual respect, shared values, and centuries of cultural and economic exchanges,” the Prime Minister said.
India-Kuwait Relations at a Glance
Kuwait is home to nearly one million Indian expatriates, forming the largest foreign community in the Gulf nation. These expatriates contribute significantly to Kuwait’s economy and play a vital role in strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
In recent years, bilateral trade between India and Kuwait has reached significant levels, with India being one of the largest importers of Kuwaiti oil. The two nations have also collaborated on renewable energy projects, healthcare, and technology transfers, further cementing their strategic partnership.
A Vision for the Future
As the Prime Minister concluded his visit, he reiterated India’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and development in the region. His engagements in Kuwait have not only strengthened ties but also paved the way for future collaborations in various sectors.
Kuwait’s gesture of awarding “The Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer” is a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations and a recognition of India’s growing influence in global affairs.
