32 Killed in 24 Hours as Israel Escalates Strikes on Gaza and Yemen; UN Appeals for Aid

Israeli forces have intensified their bombardment of Gaza, killing 32 Palestinians, including children, in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. This latest wave of violence has compounded the dire humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave, where food, water, and medical supplies remain critically scarce under Israel’s ongoing blockade.
The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with the United Nations reporting repeated denials of access to deliver aid to areas like Beit Hanoon, Beit Lahiya, and Jabalia. These regions have been under siege for over 70 days, leaving thousands of civilians on the brink of famine and without essential healthcare services.
Israel Expands Strikes to Yemen
In a significant escalation, Israel has also launched airstrikes in Yemen, targeting what it described as Houthi-controlled sites. Local media report that the attacks killed at least nine people and caused extensive damage to critical infrastructure, including two power stations in Sanaa, two ports, and an oil facility in Hodeidah. The strikes followed the Israeli military’s interception of a missile reportedly launched from Yemen toward its territory.
Analysts warn that this extension of military operations into Yemen risks further destabilizing the region. Yemen, already devastated by years of war, faces an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, with millions of civilians reliant on international aid.
Rising Tensions in the West Bank
Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Authority continues its crackdown on the Jenin refugee camp. Officials claim the operation aims to neutralize “lawless elements,” but residents and human rights groups report heavy-handed tactics, including house demolitions and mass detentions. The situation has sparked widespread fear and criticism, heightening tensions in an already volatile region.
The Toll of Violence
The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, with a surprise Hamas-led attack on Israel, has resulted in catastrophic loss of life and destruction. In Gaza, at least 45,129 Palestinians have been killed, and 107,338 injured. In Israel, 1,139 people died in the initial attack, and more than 200 remain held hostage in Gaza.
Entire neighborhoods in Gaza lie in ruins, with hospitals struggling to function due to electricity and supply shortages. International aid agencies warn of an impending collapse of essential services, urging immediate access to deliver relief.
Global Calls for Action
The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and unfettered access for humanitarian aid. The United Nations and several global leaders have expressed grave concern over the escalating violence and its impact on civilians. Despite widespread condemnation, diplomatic efforts to mediate a truce remain unsuccessful.
As the crisis escalates, the plight of civilians in Gaza, Yemen, and the West Bank underscores the urgent need for global intervention to end the violence and address the unfolding humanitarian emergencies.
