The Tangled Princess is Coming to Life

Rapunzel, a beloved character from German folklore, is a magical princess with long golden hair. Her origin story involves a magical flower, and after a wicked queen steals the flower, Rapunzel is born. The queen locks her away in a tall tower, hoping to keep her magical powers to herself. Rapunzel grows up unaware of her royal lineage. One day, a thief named Flynn Rider finds his way into her tower, rescues her, and together they embark on an adventure, where Rapunzel discovers her true identity and strives for her freedom.

This ancient story is famous worldwide and has gained even more recognition with Disney’s animated film Tangled (2010). The film was a major box office success, earning almost $1 billion globally. After the film, Disney produced a short film, a TV movie, and a TV series based on Rapunzel’s character.

However, there has been no sequel or remake of Tangled on the big screen—until now. After 14 years, Rapunzel will return to the big screen, but this time, it will be a live-action adaptation, featuring a real actress instead of animation.

According to Deadline, Disney has announced a live-action remake of Tangled. The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on The Greatest Showman. He is currently in discussions about the project. The screenplay will be written by Jennifer Kaitlin Robertson, the screenwriter for Thor: Love and Thunder.

Currently, Disney is also working on a live-action remake of Moana, starring Dwayne Johnson.

Meanwhile, director Michael Gracey is busy with the biopic Better Man about Robbie Williams, which will be released in the UK on December 26, followed by a global release. He is also planning films based on the children’s book Nevermore and the life of Luciano Pavarotti.

Given his other projects, there is no confirmed timeline for when the production of Tangled’s live-action remake will begin. However, it is speculated that the film will likely start production in anticipation of a 2026 release.
