Malaysian authorities dismantled a human trafficking syndicate and rescued 11 Bangladeshi nationals during a targeted operation in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday night.
The operation revealed that the syndicate was led by three Bangladeshi men, supported by a 32-year-old Bangladeshi woman, believed to be the partner of one of the suspects.
During coordinated raids across three locations, Malaysian Immigration officers arrested the suspects, aged 35 to 38, and rescued 11 victims, aged between 30 and 38.
Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, the Director-General of the Immigration Department, confirmed the operation’s success. “These individuals were trafficked and exploited for profit. Our team confiscated 17 Bangladeshi passports, 20 mobile phones, RM800 in cash, US$800, and two vehicles,” Zakaria stated in a press release on Friday.
The rescued individuals are currently under the care of the Immigration Department as investigations continue.
Authorities believe the syndicate was part of a well-organized network that preyed on vulnerable individuals for financial gain. Zakaria reaffirmed the department’s commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring justice for victims.
