Hayley Atwell to Return to Avengers with a Twist

Hollywood’s popular actress Hayley Atwell is making a return to the Marvel Comics superhero universe after a break. She will be starring in Avengers: Doom’s Day. Several Hollywood media outlets have reported her return in the fifth installment of the Avengers series.

According to Deadline, Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter in the film.

She first joined the Avengers in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger, where she appeared as an MI6 agent. In the story, her character, Peggy Carter, is shown as the love interest of Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, during World War II. After the war, Carter becomes one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. and starts working as a director.

Atwell last appeared as Captain Carter in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Prior to that, Peggy Carter was featured in Agent Carter, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Avengers: Endgame.

It has also been reported that Chris Evans will return in Avengers: Doom’s Day. However, details about his character have not yet been disclosed. There are hints that Atwell and Evans may once again portray Captain America and his love interest, Peggy. Additionally, discussions have started regarding the two stars appearing together in another film, but the storyline for that is still undecided.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Doom’s Day is shaping up to be an exciting film. Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, will return but this time as the villain, Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. The movie will be directed by the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, who had previously left the franchise in 2019 but are now rejoining it. The duo has also signed on to direct Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doom’s Day is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
