Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Yunus’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam Finally Admits Anti-Hindu Violence

Bangladesh Admits Targeting of Hindu Minorities, Pledges Action Against Perpetrators

DHAKA – In a significant development, the Bangladeshi government has officially acknowledged the targeting of Hindu minorities in acts of violence, with Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam revealing that 88 cases have been filed and 70 individuals arrested as of October 2024.

Speaking on behalf of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Alam stated that the numbers could rise as investigations continue. He assured that authorities are committed to arresting all those involved in such incidents and pledged to provide regular updates on anti-Hindu violence, both past and ongoing.

The announcement follows Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s recent visit to Bangladesh, which some believe may have influenced this acknowledgment. Alam indicated that further clarifications regarding cases filed after October would be shared later.

Bangladesh’s government has faced growing scrutiny over the safety of Hindu minorities, with this official admission marking a shift toward transparency and accountability in addressing communal violence.
