US General Merchandise Retailer Target Declares India as Its Second Headquarters

Target Declares India as Its Second Headquarters, Highlights Expansive Operations

BENGALURU – U.S.-based general merchandise retailer Target Corporation has designated India as its “second headquarters,” emphasizing the comprehensive integration of its U.S. business operations within its Indian arm, Target in India (TII).

Andrea Zimmerman, Senior Vice President and President of Target in India, underlined the significance of the Indian operations during a recent statement: “We consider ourselves the second headquarters of Target and are unique as a Global Capability Centre in that every part of Target’s U.S. business is represented here at TII.”

Target Corporation, headquartered in Minnesota, operates over 1,900 stores across the U.S. and has steadily expanded its global presence. TII, based in Bengaluru, serves as a pivotal Global Capability Centre (GCC) supporting the company’s wide-ranging business activities.

Since its establishment in 2005, TII has grown into a critical hub for technology, data analytics, engineering, merchandising, marketing, and supply chain management, providing seamless support for Target’s U.S. operations. The integration of various departments ensures that TII plays a vital role in enhancing customer experiences and operational efficiency.

Zimmerman added, “Our Bengaluru team is not just an extension of our U.S. operations; it is deeply involved in innovation, product development, and delivering insights that drive our business forward. This makes India an indispensable part of Target’s global strategy.”

The recognition of India as a second headquarters reflects the evolving role of GCCs in multinational corporations. Target in India now houses teams across every function, contributing to the company’s technological advancements, sustainability initiatives, and customer-focused strategies.

As the retail industry increasingly relies on technology and data, Target’s investment in India underscores the country’s importance as a talent-rich destination for driving global business objectives.
