Rebels Enter Damascus, President Assad Flees

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled. After rebel fighters entered the capital Damascus almost unopposed, Assad left the city by plane.

However, his destination remains unknown. This information was reported by news agency Reuters on Sunday, December 8.

According to the report, two senior military officials informed Reuters that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad departed from Damascus on Sunday aboard a plane heading to an undisclosed location.

Meanwhile, the rebels claimed that they have entered the capital, Damascus. However, no government forces were seen on the way into the city.

The rebels stated, “We are celebrating with the people of Syria the liberation of our prisoners, breaking their chains, and announcing the end of the era of injustice in the Sednaya prison.”
