Indian Propaganda Can’t Touch Bangladesh, Says Adviser Sakhawat

Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Bangladesh’s adviser on shipping, labor, and employment affairs, has firmly stated that Indian propaganda will not harm Bangladesh or its people. Speaking to reporters on Friday during a visit to the Benapole customs and land port in Jashore, he emphasized Bangladesh’s resilience and self-reliance.
“We have no reason to fear Indian propaganda,” Sakhawat said. “Bangladesh has robust medical facilities, a thriving market, and a strong economy. We are equipped to stand on our own.”
Decline in Kolkata’s Business Sector
Commenting on business conditions in India’s West Bengal, particularly Kolkata, Sakhawat noted a decline in several sectors, including hospitality. He attributed much of Kolkata’s economic activity to Bangladeshi visitors.
“Bangladeshis are the second-largest group of international travelers to India, contributing significantly to its economy,” he said. “If they decide not to visit, it would have a notable impact on India’s earnings from tourism.”

He further highlighted that the relationship between the two nations has been long-standing, but Bangladesh’s progress and self-sufficiency mean it is not overly dependent on its neighbor.
Call for Unity and Tolerance
Sakhawat underscored the country’s unity and inclusivity across religious lines by reaffirming the social harmony within Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh has always been united,” he said. “We do not differentiate among Hindus, Muslims, Christians, or Buddhists. There is no division between majority and minority groups here.”
He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling for provocations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability.
Officials Accompanying the Visit
Sakhawat was accompanied by Jashore Deputy Commissioner Azaharul Islam and local officials from the customs, land port, and police departments during his inspection of the cargo yard and immigration facilities at Benapole.
