Minorities in Bangladesh fed up with ‘harassment of false cases’: HRCBM

Leaders of the Human Rights Congress for Bangladeshi Minorities (HRCBM) speaking at a press conference at the Crime Reporters’ Association auditorium in Dhaka

“We are still not getting any solution in any case, the victims are complaining directly to us. We have complained to the administration but there is no solution,” said the convener of the organization.

An organization called Human Rights Congress for Bangladeshi Minorities (HRCBM) has demanded to get rid of this situation, claiming that religious minorities are fed up with ‘harassment in false cases’ with a series of ‘torture and persecution’.

Lawyer Lucky Bachar made the allegation at a press conference at the Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) auditorium on Thursday.

He said, “After the incidents that are happening across the country, minorities are being harassed again with ‘false’ cases in their names and anonymously. We want to get rid of the status quo of the case.

At the press conference, it was said that on November 26, police beat up eight people from a peaceful movement in Kotalipara of Gopalganj. They were released after 7-8 hours of staging a sit-in to bring them back. But on December 1, police filed a case against 55 people and 300-400 unidentified people.

In addition to burning the houses of the victims of ‘targeted violence’ in Lalmonirhat and Rangpur divisions, minorities are being arbitrarily arrested and harassed on fabricated charges. “The victims detained at Dakop Police Station in Khulna on ‘false pretexts’ are being intimidated and harassed legally. ”

The HRCBM convener said, “We are still not getting any solution in any case, the victims are complaining directly to us. We complained to the administration but there is no solution. We want to get rid of this situation, we want peace. ”.

He also referred to the incident after the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif during a clash on the Chittagong court premises on November 26 on the day Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was sent to jail in a sedition case.

Lucky Bachar said, “The Hindu minority, including the Dalit community, is facing increasing repression in the Chittagong incident. Extreme economic and social misery has arisen among them as ‘false’ cases have been filed against 500 to 2,100 people. “

Terming the sedition case against Chinmoy as “completely false”, he said its intention was to “harass”.

“False and harassing cases were filed against thousands of minorities across the country when the minorities erupted in anger over the ‘existential crisis’ to silence him.

“More than 500 ‘innocent minorities’ were injured. Hundreds of houses were looted, sevak colonies were set on fire, women were ‘molested’ and many temples vandalised. Many false and harassing cases were filed in the name of lawyers in Chittagong court. ”

The HRCBM convener also alleged that the lawyers were not allowed to enter the court premises on the day of Chinmoy’s bail hearing, ‘arbitrarily’ police arrests, vandalizing chambers and ‘threatening to kill’ them.

He also called for the formation of a ‘legal team’ on January 2 to arrange for the hearing of Chinmoy Das.

Referring to the killing of Hriday Rabi Das in Kishoreganj’s Karimganj, Lucky Bachar said, “Hriday Rabi Das, a marginal Dalit community, was allegedly killed by law enforcers over a mere love affair with a Muslim girl. We demand justice for such “extrajudicial violence”. ”

Hridoy Robi Das succumbed to his injuries in Kishoreganj on November 15.

It was also highlighted at the press conference that the incident of arson took place in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat centering the cremation temple. It is said, “Where one person later died.” Even after being informed about the matter, the administration is playing a silent role. ”
