“Stop injustice against Hindus now”

Shahi Imam of Jamia Masjid urges to Yunus

Shahi Imam wrote a letter with a strong message to Mohammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh

Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, has condemned the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. In a letter to Mohammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, he urged him to take steps to stop the persecution of the Hindu minority in that country.

In the letter to Yunus, Bukhari said:

In his letter, Bukhari recalled the long good relations between India and Bangladesh. “Since the establishment of Bangladesh, our national leadership, media, civil society and influential quarters have maintained close relations with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his daughter Sheikh Hasina Wajid and their party Awami League in the diplomatic, regional and international arenas,” Bukhari wrote in the letter to Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government. Bangladesh has always stood beside us as a close friend in the Muslim world. He recalled that as soon as Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh, unrest arose around her Awami League’s Muslim and non-Muslim supporters. In the letter, the Imam of Jama Masjid wrote, “So far it remains an internal matter of Bangladesh. However, the ongoing injustices, attacks and unilateral actions against the Hindu minority are condemnable and must stop immediately. There is no justification for such actions.

In the letter, Saud Bukhari reminded Dhaka of the significant role of India in the establishment and development of Bangladesh. “The government must acknowledge the unparalleled history of support and care we have played in their founding and development process, and our support and care for millions of refugees. We are the first to stand beside them in every natural disaster. With a strong message, he reminded the United Nations law on equal rights for minorities. “As a loyal neighbour, a close friend of Bangladesh and a defender of the same cultural heritage, I hope the current Head of Bangladesh, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, will take immediate steps to stop any injustice against the Hindu minority.” He has to ensure that his international reputation remains intact. “As a Muslim-majority country, Islam and Islamic jurisprudence inherently have no place for prejudice or injustice against minorities in Bangladesh.
