Netflix is set to release a documentary series that will showcase three generations of the Roshan family and their significant influence on Hindi cinema. This series marks the first time the family has opened up about their incredible journey in the film industry.
The documentary will follow the family’s legacy, starting with patriarch Roshan Lal Nagrath (also known as Roshan), continuing with his sons, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan (famous for the Krrish series) and composer Rajesh Roshan (known for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai), and finally, their grandson, Bollywood icon Hrithik Roshan (star of War). The series will highlight the family’s contributions through music, acting, and direction.
Shashi Ranjan, an experienced filmmaker behind Dobara, directs the series, which includes interviews with family members and industry colleagues reflecting on the Roshans’ lasting impact on Hindi cinema.
This project is part of a growing interest from global streaming platforms in exploring Bollywood’s history, with notable documentaries like Netflix’s The Romantics, about the Yash Chopra family, and Prime Video’s Angry Young Men, which focuses on scriptwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.
“We are thrilled to share our family’s untold stories with a global audience,” the Roshan family said. “Netflix provides an amazing opportunity to reach viewers from all around the world and tell our journey.”
Director Shashi Ranjan expressed his gratitude, saying it was “a privilege to be a part of the Roshan family’s story and legacy.”
Monika Shergill, Netflix India’s VP of content, called the documentary “a deeply emotional and nostalgic experience” that uncovers the personal history of this influential film family.
The series will feature in-depth interviews with Rakesh, Rajesh, and Hrithik Roshan, offering a unique insight into their lasting legacy in the entertainment world.
