‘The Brutalist’ Wins Best Film at New York Film Critics Circle Awards

At the 2024 New York Film Critics Circle Awards, The Brutalist was named the Best Film of the year. The film, directed by Brady Corbet, stars Adrien Brody as a Hungarian Jewish architect who moves to the U.S. after World War II to build a new life. Brody also won the Best Actor award for his performance in the movie.

Nickel Boys earned two awards: Best Director for RaMell Ross and Best Cinematography for Jomo Fray.

The Best Actress award went to Marianne Jean-Baptiste for her role in Hard Truths, while Kieran Culkin was named Best Supporting Actor for his work in A Real Pain. Carol Kane won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Between the Temples.

Other notable winners include Sean Baker, who won Best Screenplay for Anora, and Flow, which was named Best Animated Film.

All We Imagine as Light was recognized as the Best International Film, while No Other Land took home the Best Nonfiction Film award. Janet Planet was named Best First Film.

The New York Film Critics Circle, founded in 1935, is made up of critics from major newspapers, magazines, and online publications. The winners will be honored at a ceremony in January.
