UK issues travel warning to Bangladesh

The United Kingdom has warned its citizens of the risk of terrorist attacks in Bangladesh.

The British Foreign Office issued the warning on Tuesday (December 3) in its travel advisory to its citizens to Bangladesh.

The updated travel warning said indiscriminate terrorist attacks could be carried out. The attacks may take place in crowded areas, religious establishments and political gatherings.

The British Foreign Office said some groups had targeted individuals it believed had un-Islamophobic lifestyles and views. There have been occasional attacks against minority religious groups and police and security forces have been targeted. 

Explosives have been used in these attacks in major cities. Bangladeshi authorities are working to thwart these planned attacks. 

At short notice, the presence of law enforcement agencies may be increased and movement restrictions may be imposed.

The British Foreign Office has warned its citizens against travel, saying, “You have to be aware of your surroundings. Especially be careful around police installations. Large gatherings and other places with presence of police and law enforcement agencies have been advised to be avoided.
