Elton John Reveals Loss of Sight After Eye Infection

Elton John has shared that he has lost his sight due to an eye infection.

While attending a West End gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, which he wrote the lyrics for, Elton explained that he could not see the show but was able to enjoy listening to it.

At the charity event for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Elton said, “I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it.” His husband, David Furnish, helped him off the stage after the event.

Elton also thanked his husband for his support, saying, “To my husband who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews. It’s hard for me to see it but I love to hear it, and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming!”

Earlier, Elton spoke to ABC News about his vision problems. He said he lost sight in his right eye after an infection in the south of France in July. He explained that his left eye is also not in great condition. Due to this, he has had to pause plans for a new album.

Elton shared, “I’ve been stuck at the moment. I can do interviews like this, but going into the studio and recording is difficult because I can’t read the lyrics.” Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful about improving his sight.

Despite the health setback, Elton expressed gratitude as he promotes his new documentary Elton John: It’s Never Too Late, which will premiere on Disney+ on December 13. He concluded, “I’m so lucky, I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
