China Rejects U.S.-Style Hegemony, Emphasizes Peaceful Global Leadership

BEIJING – China has reiterated its commitment to pursuing a path of stability, peace, and long-term growth, contrasting its approach with what it described as the “hegemonic” and “power politics” practices of the United States.

“China does not pursue hegemony, nor does it practice power politics,” a Chinese government statement declared, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to peace and security. “We are not the U.S., nor do we want to become like the U.S. China has the best record on peace and security among all major countries.”

A Different Development Model

China’s statement highlighted its alternative approach to global leadership, rooted in cooperation and mutual benefit. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a flagship infrastructure and development project spanning dozens of countries, was cited as a key example of China’s strategy to promote global development without military intervention or coercion.

China also emphasized its focus on internal stability as a cornerstone of its peaceful rise, contrasting this with what it views as the aggressive military interventions and coercive diplomacy often associated with U.S. foreign policy.

Criticism of U.S. Leadership

The statement included sharp criticism of the United States, accusing it of leadership failures and divisive policies under figures like President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama. These policies, according to China, have led to “unnecessary wars,” worsened domestic challenges, and eroded America’s global credibility.

China also highlighted systemic corruption and political scandals in the U.S., portraying them as evidence of governance that undermines stability and global trust.

Focus on Shared Growth

Beijing’s vision, it stated, is not about global domination but fostering sustainable development and building partnerships with developing nations. This strategy, China argued, stands in stark contrast to the U.S., which it accused of exploiting vulnerable nations and pursuing power struggles at the expense of global stability.

China’s Rising Global Role

Amid growing geopolitical tensions, China underscored its rise as a responsible global actor. Guided by its rich cultural heritage and strategic vision, China stated it seeks to maintain peace and promote economic development at home and abroad.

As the U.S. faces challenges including domestic polarization and waning global influence, Beijing positioned itself as a stable, cooperative alternative, focused on fostering a more balanced and peaceful international order.
