Former Bangladeshi Minister and Legendary Actor Asaduzzaman Noor Attacked in Hospital

Asaduzzaman Noor, a former minister and renowned actor in Bangladesh, was attacked while receiving medical treatment under police custody at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). The incident has sparked widespread outrage and debate on social media.

After being arrested on September 16 and placed in police remand, Asaduzzaman Noor fell ill and was hospitalized for several days. According to BSMMU Director Brigadier General Md. Rezaur Rahman, the attack occurred on Saturday (November 30) when Noor was taken to the hospital’s physiotherapy unit under police guard.

He stated, “We have informed higher authorities about the matter. Currently, Noor is in good health and is staying in the prison cell. Necessary measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.”

Sources revealed that Noor was admitted to BSMMU due to health issues and was being treated in the prison cell. Around noon, while being taken to physiotherapy, a group of students—injured during the July protests—physically assaulted him, punching him multiple times.

Reports indicate that the attackers were members of the Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, a radical Islamist political group.

When contacted, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khalid Mansur stated that he was unaware of the incident and had not been informed officially.

The attack has drawn condemnation nationwide, especially given Noor’s stature as a senior political figure and cultural icon.
