Tesla Recalls 2,431 Cybertrucks Over Drive Inverter Fault

Tesla is recalling 2,431 Cybertrucks due to a potential issue with their drive inverters that could result in a loss of power to the wheels. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) noted that this fault could “increase the risk of a crash.” However, Tesla stated that no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been reported related to the issue.

The recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, which contain metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) in their drive inverters. Tesla has assured customers that while no warning occurs before the loss of propulsion, drivers will receive a visual alert to safely pull over and contact Tesla Roadside Assistance.

To address the issue, Tesla will replace the faulty drive inverters with properly functioning components, with the service set to begin around December 9. The recall process is expected to take about three hours per vehicle.

Affected owners will receive notification of the recall in early January 2024. This marks the sixth recall for the Cybertruck model in about a year.
