Japan, the United States, and the Philippines will convene their first trilateral maritime consultations on security cooperation this December, marking a significant step in strengthening regional collaboration.
The plans were confirmed during a bilateral meeting between Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and Philippine Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo in Fiuggi, Italy. The consultations will take place in Tokyo and are expected to address shared maritime security concerns.
This initiative follows the agreement reached during a trilateral summit held in April, where the three nations emphasized the need for coordinated maritime strategies.
The discussions will involve Japan’s Foreign Ministry, as well as relevant agencies from all three countries. The primary goal is to enhance maritime security cooperation and reinforce deterrence efforts, particularly in response to China’s growing presence in the region.
This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of Japan, the U.S., and the Philippines to ensure stability and security in the Indo-Pacific.
