Saudi authorities have arrested six Bangladeshi nationals for fishing without permission and using prohibited equipment in the Al-Lith area of Makkah province.
According to the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday, the arrests were made by the Kingdom’s border guard forces for violating marine security regulations. Officials said banned fishing gear was seized during the operation.
A photograph released by the Saudi border guards showed the detained Bangladeshis standing with their backs turned, while fishing nets were displayed on a table behind them.
The border guard authority urged residents and fishermen to comply with Saudi Arabia’s maritime laws and regulations. It also encouraged the public to report any illegal fishing activities to the relevant authorities, assuring that the identities of informants would remain strictly confidential.
Saudi officials have intensified monitoring of unauthorized fishing activities as part of efforts to protect marine resources and enforce environmental regulations.
