Sajeeb Wazed Joy, grandson of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former ICT adviser to the Prime Minister, has accused the current government of attempting to cover up the brutal killings of activists from the Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League in the Turag River.
In a statement posted on social media on Saturday, Joy alleged that the administration and intelligence agencies are being used to suppress information surrounding the killings.
Allegations of Intelligence Activity and Pressure on Families
According to Joy, a team from Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) has reportedly been stationed at Turag Police Station throughout the day in connection with the incident.
He further claimed that families of three victims whose bodies were recovered from the Turag River were summoned to the police station and pressured to file “Unnatural Death (UD)” cases instead of murder cases. Joy alleged that this was a deliberate attempt to shield the actual perpetrators.
Claims of High-Level Government Intervention
Joy also accused senior members of the BNP-led government of directly contacting the military and DGFI to manage the fallout from the killings. He claimed the aim was to portray the murders as ordinary incidents for political reasons.
In his statement, Joy warned that a staged press conference involving the victims’ families has been planned for Sunday, where they may allegedly be compelled to deliver statements scripted by the government.
Call for Protest and Justice
Condemning what he described as politically motivated violence and efforts to conceal it, Joy urged the public to speak out against injustice.
He called on people from all walks of life to stand beside Awami League leaders and activists in demanding justice and ensuring the rule of law.
Following Joy’s remarks, the allegations have sparked widespread debate in the political arena, with Awami League supporters and members of the public calling for a fair and independent investigation into the Turag killings.
