The deployment of six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka has been confirmed by Md. Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer, to maintain law and order. The deployment took place around 3 PM on November 25 in areas like Jatrabari and Dhonia. This measure was taken amidst ongoing unrest and security concerns in the city.
For several days, Dhaka has been grappling with disruptions caused by various incidents. A significant trigger was the tragic death of a 12th-grade student due to alleged medical negligence at a hospital in Old Dhaka, sparking violent protests by students from multiple colleges.
On November 24, students from Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College reportedly vandalized Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Government Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam College. In retaliation, students from these colleges attacked Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College on November 25. The resulting violence left many students injured, and Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College sustained extensive damage during the clashes.
To address the escalating tensions, authorities deployed BGB forces to restore order and ensure public safety in the affected areas.
