Konkona Sen Sharma Joins Carlos Bardem in ‘Mis(s)chief’

Indian actress Konkona Sen Sharma (Killer Soup, Wake Up Sid) has been cast as the lead female role in the comedy film Mis(s)chief, opposite Carlos Bardem (El Cid). The film was announced at the Film Bazaar in Goa.

The movie is being produced by the U.K. and India-based company Avani Films and is currently in development. It has moved into the second round at the 2025 Sundance Development Labs as a curated entry.

Mis(s)chief tells the story of a mother of two who is trying to make it as a filmmaker while dealing with a failing marriage, a gangster’s bullet after upsetting him, and her children’s never-ending homework schedule. British filmmaker Peter Webber (Girl With a Pearl Earring) is serving as an executive producer, and Emmy-nominated casting director Nancy Bishop is assembling the international cast.

Konkona Sen Sharma shared her excitement about the project, saying, “I am delighted by the comic premise, the representation of women, and the writing itself.”

The film will be directed by Anu Vaidyanathan, who explained, “Konkona’s life experience is closest to our protagonist Rumi, who is balancing motherhood and filmmaking. I am excited to work with such legendary actors as Konkona and Carlos to bring these characters to life.”

In addition to Mis(s)chief, Avani Films is also presenting the dramatic series Modern Times at the Film Bazaar. This series, which has been in development since 2020, explores family and migration through two timelines: pre-independent India and modern-day Berlin and San Francisco. The series was a finalist at the Sundance Episodic Labs.

Avani Films is also presenting its thriller Candy at the Film Bazaar’s producer’s workshop.
