British Police Conduct Controlled Explosion Near US Embassy in South London

London – British police carried out a controlled explosion near the US embassy in south London on November 22 after discovering a suspicious package. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the explosion, stating that it was a “loud bang” caused by the controlled detonation of the package.

In a statement on X, the police force confirmed that investigations were ongoing and that cordons would remain in place as a precaution. “Enquiries are still ongoing, and cordons will remain in place for the time being,” the Metropolitan Police said.

Earlier, the police had alerted the public that they were investigating a suspicious package in the area south of the River Thames, and were aware of online speculation about the incident.

The US embassy responded on X, confirming that a nearby road had been closed “out of an abundance of caution.” Further details about the nature of the package and any potential threats have not yet been disclosed, as investigations continue.
