New Trailer for Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon Released

The first trailer for the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon has been released.

The movie is based on Cressida Cowell’s book. It follows a young Viking named Hiccup, who is sent on a mission to kill a dragon and prove he is a man.

But instead of killing the dragon, Hiccup finds a hurt dragon named Toothless, who he befriends and trains. Hiccup hopes to show his village that dragons are not what they think.

The movie, from Universal Pictures, will be released on June 13, 2025.

In the trailer, Hiccup (played by Mason Thames) learns he is meant to be a dragon slayer. His father, Stoick (Gerard Butler), tells him, “When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you.” Hiccup replies, “I can’t kill dragons,” but his father says, “But you will.”

Hiccup goes on his mission to kill a dragon but instead meets Toothless, a defenseless dragon. Hiccup tells him, “It’s okay, I won’t hurt you,” and gently touches Toothless’s nose.

Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed the original animated films, returns to write, direct, and produce the new movie.

The cast includes Nick Frost, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, and Ruth Codd.

The original How to Train Your Dragon movie came out in 2010, followed by How to Train Your Dragon 2 in 2014, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019. The franchise earned over $1.6 billion worldwide and was nominated for four Oscars.
