Henry Cavill Left The Witcher: Career Changes and the Superman Connection

If you’re wondering why Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher and Liam Hemsworth is taking over in Season 4, you’re not alone. While no one knows the exact reason, there are some popular ideas about why Cavill is stepping down. Let’s take a look at two of the biggest theories.

In 2019, Henry Cavill said he could handle acting in The Witcher while also doing other projects. He even promised to stay for a seven-season story if the show followed the original The Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski. However, fans started to get upset with the show’s changes from the books, and rumors spread that Cavill didn’t like how things were going. He had always wanted the show to stay true to the books. Behind the scenes, there were talks about creative differences, and Cavill’s comment about leaving if he felt he was “doing the wrong thing” made fans think this was the reason for his departure.

Another possible reason for Cavill leaving The Witcher could be tied to his return as Superman. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pushed for Cavill to come back as Superman in the movie Black Adam. Even though Cavill hadn’t played Superman since 2017, Johnson made sure Cavill had a cameo in Black Adam, leading to talks of a Superman vs. Black Adam movie. But when Black Adam didn’t do well at the box office and changes happened at Warner Bros., plans for Cavill’s Superman return were canceled.

While it’s tempting to think that Cavill’s possible return as Superman might have caused him to leave The Witcher, it’s still unclear if this is really why he stepped down.
