Comedian and former late-night host Conan O’Brien will host the 97th Oscars on March 2, 2025, the Academy announced Friday.
This will be O’Brien’s first time hosting the awards, following two years with Jimmy Kimmel as host. The Oscars recently won an Emmy for best live variety show and had over 20 million viewers.
O’Brien joked about the news, saying, “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
The Academy said O’Brien’s humor, love of movies, and live TV skills make him the perfect host. Disney TV and the show’s producers also praised him as a great fit for the big night.
O’Brien is best known for his late-night shows, writing for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, and hosting the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
The Oscars will air live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, with a red carpet pre-show at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
