Scotland ends its winless streak with a victory over 10-man Croatia

Scotland won their first Nations League victory and halted their long winless streak with a late goal from substitute John McGinn to defeat 10-man Croatia.

After Dominik Kotarski parried a Ben Doak shot, the midfielder snatched a loose ball and scored his 19th goal for his country, causing a belated uproar at Hampden.

The result gives Scotland hope of keeping their Nations League A status, with a relegation play-off in the spring and a prize if they win in Poland on Monday.

If Croatia loses at home to Portugal and has a three-goal swing, three points in Warsaw may still guarantee Croatia a place in the Nations League quarter-finals and a slot amongthe top seeds for the World Cup qualifying draw.

However, those variations can wait for a day or variations can wait for a day or two. Pressure was on Steve Clarke’s team even more; they hadn’t won in 10 games in a row in competition and had won only eleven 16 games overall.
