Elon Musk Mocks ‘SNL’ Over Trump Hat, Criticizes Show’s Decline

Elon Musk has reacted to Dana Carvey’s impression of him on Saturday Night Live, calling it unimpressive. “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey,” Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter), sharing his thoughts on Carvey’s portrayal of him during the cold open of the latest episode.

Carvey, dressed in Musk’s signature “dark MAGA” hat and mocking his South African accent, performed exaggerated dance moves and chanted “USA! USA!”—a reference to Musk’s past public appearances with Trump. Responding to a post about the “gothic” Trump hat on SNL, Musk said, “They are so mad that @realDonaldTrump won,” accompanied by laughing emojis.

Musk, who hosted SNL in May 2021, went on to criticize the show further, writing, “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.” He also referred to the show’s attempt to prop up Kamala Harris before the election, which, according to Musk, only hurt her campaign.

Carvey, who previously portrayed Joe Biden on SNL, took on the role of Musk for the post-election episode. The skit mocked the mood surrounding Trump’s election, with Carvey’s Musk declaring, “America’s going to be like one of my rockets… super cool, but there’s a slight chance it could blow up.” He ended the performance with a playful “See you in the White House!”
