Israeli Strikes on Gaza and Lebanon Result in High Civilian Casualties, UN Warns of Famine

Deadly Airstrike Hits Gaza’s Jabalia Refugee Camp

In the early hours on Sunday, Israeli forces launched a devastating airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing at least 33 people, including 13 children and nine women. Rescuers continue to search through the debris, pulling bodies from the remains of a family home destroyed in the attack.

Israeli Strike on Lebanese Village Almat Kills 23, Including Seven Children

An Israeli airstrike targeted the village of Almat in Lebanon, killing at least 23 people, seven of whom were children, and leaving several others injured. This strike adds to the mounting civilian toll as violence extends beyond Gaza.

UNRWA Warns of Widespread Famine in Northern Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a dire warning, stating that “famine is likely happening in northern Gaza.” Medical professionals on the ground report “alarming cases of malnutrition” among both children and adults, raising concerns about an escalating humanitarian crisis.

Civilian Death Toll Soars Amid Ongoing Conflict

The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in significant casualties. At least 43,603 Palestinians have been killed, and over 102,929 injured, according to local health authorities. In Israel, approximately 1,139 individuals were killed during initial attacks by Hamas, with more than 200 taken captive. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of 3,136 people and injuries to 13,979 individuals since the conflict’s escalation.

This latest escalation has prompted urgent calls from international organizations for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid access to Gaza and Lebanon.
