Beyoncé is the top nominee for the 2025 Grammy Awards, receiving 11 nominations for her album Cowboy Carter and its singles. This is a personal best for the singer, surpassing her previous high of 10 nominations in 2009.
But Beyoncé isn’t alone in making history. She is one of five women nominated in all three of the top Grammy categories — Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. Alongside her, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter are also nominated in all three major categories.
Roan and Carpenter also earned nominations for Best New Artist, making them contenders in all four general categories this year. If either Roan or Carpenter wins Best New Artist along with Record, Song, and Album of the Year, they would be the first to do so since Billie Eilish in 2020.
Other major nominees include Charli XCX, Post Malone, and Kendrick Lamar, each with seven nominations. After Beyoncé’s 11 nods, these three artists tie for the second-highest number of nominations this year.
In total, female artists dominate the top categories, with six out of the eight nominees for Album of the Year and Record of the Year being women. While this is an impressive showing, it continues a trend of strong female representation at the Grammys, following last year’s similar dominance.
This year’s nominations reflect the widespread influence of these artists in both music and pop culture, making predictions easier for many. However, there were some surprising choices, like Andre 3000’s Album of the Year nod for his instrumental project New Blue Sun. This album was not widely predicted as a contender, and its inclusion is sure to raise eyebrows. The Beatles’ track Now and Then also received a Record of the Year nomination, a surprise but not entirely unexpected.
While men like Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, and Shaboozey made their mark this year, they were mostly limited to a single nomination for Best New Artist. Shaboozey also earned additional nominations for his hit A Bar Song (Tipsy).
As the Grammys ceremony approaches on February 1, all eyes are on whether Beyoncé will finally take home Album of the Year or Record of the Year — two awards that have eluded her despite a record number of Grammy wins. However, with strong competition from artists like Kendrick Lamar, who made waves this year with his single Not Like Us, the top categories are as unpredictable as ever. Could this be the year that a male artist wins one of the big awards? Only time will tell.
