Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, has said he may consider running for president in the 2028 U.S. election, although he has not yet made a final decision.
During an interview on The Cats Roundtable on Sunday, September 6, host John Catsimatidis asked Hunter Biden whether he was planning to seek the presidency. Hunter initially said he had not decided whether to run.
Later in the interview, however, he responded more playfully to the same question, saying, “With your support, I might have to run.”
Hunter Biden also discussed several Democrats who could potentially compete for the White House in 2028. He mentioned Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker as promising candidates. He also said he personally likes California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Newsom has already indicated that he is considering a presidential campaign. In an October 2025 interview with CBS News correspondent Robert Costa, Newsom said he would be lying if he claimed he was not considering a White House bid after the 2026 midterm elections.
Other Democrats who have been mentioned as potential 2028 presidential contenders include Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff, former Vice President Kamala Harris, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
During the interview, Hunter Biden also emphasized the importance of the rule of law, saying whoever becomes president must remain committed to it. He also spoke about preserving the constitutional republic and maintaining faith in the aspirations of ordinary Americans.
A poll conducted by Emerson College and The Hill in August showed Gavin Newsom slightly ahead of potential Republican contenders Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the early 2028 presidential field.
Hunter Biden also spoke openly about his history of drug addiction. He said his major concern at present is the nearly 50 million Americans struggling with addiction. He also said he recently reached seven and a half years of sobriety.
